5 ways to style your Spring wardrobe…
As we hit the fashion limbo stage I thought I’d share some ways to style your Spring wardrobe. It’s a bit of an awkward time really, one day we are teased with sunshine then freezing temperatures and winds the next. What’s a girl to wear? Spring is almost here, the days are getting longer and so I’m planning outfits. That’s normal right? I’m craving lighter fabrics, softer colors, and basically anything other than hefty wool sweaters, puffy coats and tights.
The start of a new year and decade is the perfect time to clear out your wardrobe. Create space for some colour and sunshine in your wardrobe. And that’s my first piece of advice, have yourself a little clear out. Or in my case a floordrobe. Make a coffee, pop on a podcast or playlist and make piles. Think of your piles as mini wardrobes – wear with, pack away, wear soon. And then of course if you’re anything like me you’ll have a charity pile too.
I’m a huge fan of wearing my wardrobe, I take many pieces from Winter right through to Spring and Summer, it’s just styling them differently. So my maxi dresses and midi skirts that I wear with boots and chunky knits in Winter are then put together with trainers and layers in Spring and sandals in Summer. If you don’t own a maxi dress I would recommend you GO. And. Buy. One. Having a good old Spring clean of your wardrobe helps you to find the gaps so you can hit the shops but also remember what you already have. What you can re wear.
And so here’s my…
5 ways to style your Spring wardrobe…
1. Layers
This is where you’ll find me wearing my Shacket every which way. If you follow me over on Insta you’ll see that it’s featuring heavily at the moment. When it lends itself this well to your wardrobe who can resist? Honestly if you haven’t invested then I will shout out loud GO. And. Buy. One. Now. You won’t regret it. I picked this one up from Topshop a few weeks ago – its still in the sale! And then there’s cardigans, blazers and denim shirts, I wear them all over my Spring dresses just to add a little bit of warmth for when Storm Dennis or whoever else blows a gale. My ankles, well they just freeze. All in the name of fashion.
2. Trainers
They’ve been a huge favourite over the last couple of years and the perfect footwear for transitioning between Winter and Spring. With jeans, dresses, skirts and leather leggings. I ditch the tights and wear mine with socks. H&M and Topshop have some great ones. Sparkly or with spots on, they’re my favourite. And I love them with this monochrome chuck on dress from Topshop. A pop of plum. Perfect.
3. Boots
Despite my thoughts turning to Spring and Summer outfits I’m not quite ready to let go of my boots just yet. In truth I just love how they toughen up a feminine dress. Until it’s sandals weather my boots will carry me through, drop the tights and wear them with maxi dresses and skirts.
4. Introduce Print
I love to add a pop of colour to my wardrobe in Spring. It feels like I’m bringing the sunshine back. But also this year I am really loving monochrome, like the dress above. In winter I wear quite bold colours, often a block of colour so it’s lovely to be adding delicate prints that are flattering. For me they really make an outfit. I love feminine prints and soft pastels in Spring / Summer. If a full dress isn’t quite right for you then consider a floral scarf or a pastel shacket which can revive an old outfit in a flash.
5. Hair do
If you’re anything like me you’ve lived in hats since November. Now is the time to start thinking about your hair. A new hair-do, a lighter shade, a few highlights could help transition your style beautifully into Spring. In the next few days I’m off to the hairdressers to add some lighter pieces to my hair, especially around my face. I’m really looking forward to adding a bit of colour. And dressing up my outfits with my hair.
And that’s my 5 ways to style your Spring wardrobe. It won’t be long until we’re wearing sandals. Until then this is what i’ll be wearing.
