My Cornwall Style: What I Wore in St Ives

I’ve written before about the places we love in St Ives, the beach walks, the coffee stops and the routines that bring us back year after year. I think was my most “me” holiday style yet.

I do love clothes that make me feel comfortable, confident and like myself. And looking back through my photos from this year’s trip, I realised I’d finally found a holiday wardrobe that ticked all three boxes. If I had to describe it, I’d call it beachy, bohemian and relaxed.

My Cornwall Style: What I Wore in St Ives

The bikini

Let’s start with the biggest surprise. This was the first holiday in years, where I had to run and buy a bikini. My shape and size has changed this year, I felt ready to wear one again. I’ve never been a person who dresses for anyone else and Cornwall feels like a place that supports that. It’s about coastal walks, beach days and making the most of the glorious sunshine.

And for the first time in a long time, I simply wore the bikini and got on with enjoying the holiday.

Floaty skirts and linen shirts

My floral maxi skirts were probably the hardest-working pieces in my suitcase.

Easy to throw on, comfortable enough for walking around town and perfect for evening dinners overlooking the harbour. Paired with a t-shirt and oversized linen shirt, they became my go-to outfit more than once during the week.

There’s something about linen in Cornwall that just works.

Graphic tees and Adidas shorts

For beach walks, coffee runs and casual mornings, I lived in oversized graphic T-shirts and Adidas shorts. They’re easy, comfortable and practical, especially when you’re walking across sand, chasing after a Labrador or carrying half the contents of a beach bag. Not groundbreaking fashion, but exactly right for a Cornish holiday.

Mini skirts, vests and sunny afternoons

When the weather really delivered, I found myself reaching for simple vests and mini skirts. Nothing complicated, just easy pieces that worked for wandering around St Ives, grabbing lunch by the harbour or enjoying an afternoon in the sunshine on a deckchair.

Footwear for every occasion

My footwear choices were all about practicality. Birkenstocks for everyday wear. Havaianas for the beach. Tevas for sandy walks, paddling and those moments when you know your shoes are likely to get wet. All three earned their place in the suitcase.

The journey home uniform

Every holiday has one. The outfit you save for travelling in. Mine was a pair of Adidas tracksuit bottoms, an oversized jumper and t-shirt for comfort. Relaxed, cosy and ideal for the long journey back while already talking about when we might return.

My Cornwall style

Looking back, this felt like my best Cornwall wardrobe yet.

Not because it was fashionable or carefully curated, but because it reflected exactly how I wanted to feel. Comfortable enough for long beach walks. Relaxed enough for slow mornings with coffee. Practical enough for family adventures. And confident enough to stop worrying about what I should wear and simply enjoy where I was.

Perhaps that’s what holiday style is really about.

Not following trends, but packing the pieces that allow you to be fully present in the place you’ve come to enjoy.
