It’s been a little while since I’ve written one of these life updates, hasn’t it? And somehow, here we are, well and truly into autumn.
The summer holidays feel like a distant memory, the heating has made a regular appearance, and I’ve finally admitted defeat and started switching my wardrobe over. Which, if I am honest, has been lovely.
As much as I love the sunshine, there’s something rather lovely about settling into autumn life. Especially when home is where you want to be.
Life Lately: Autumn Routines, Our New Puppy & Home Updates
Embracing the Cosy Season
The lighter summer clothes are slowly being packed away, the knitwear is making its way back into my wardrobe, and the heating is officially on.
We’ve also wasted no time getting back into our favourite Sunday rituals. Proper Sunday lunches, apple pie with custard, and afternoons that don’t require too much planning. Honestly, is there anything better at this time of year?
And, of course, autumn television is back.
Between The Traitors and The Great British Bake Off, our evenings are looking rather cosy. I’m very happy about that.
A Little Puppy Love
Of course, the biggest change in our little family has been welcoming Doug. Our new Labrador puppy has been with us for four weeks now, and life has certainly become a little busier!
After talking about getting Bob a companion for almost two years, we finally took the plunge this summer. And watching the two of them together has been such a joy.
There are more muddy paws, puppy training sessions, and interrupted nights, but also so much laughter.
I’ve written a little more about Doug and how he came to join our family in a separate post, because he definitely deserves a proper introduction.
Making Changes at Home
We’re also making a few changes around the house. One of the biggest is converting what was once George’s playroom into a family cinema room. And I can’t quite believe I’m writing that.
It feels like only yesterday that the room was filled with toys and all the things that come with having a little boy.
Now we’re creating a space that suits this next stage of family life. Somewhere we can all settle down together, watch a film, and enjoy those evenings at home.
I’m really looking forward to seeing it come together. We’re almost there.
Back on the Football Sidelines
And just like that, another football season is underway. Our weekends are once again revolving around George’s matches, getting out of the house, and spending time on the sidelines.
It’s become such a familiar part of our family routine over the years, and one that I really enjoy.
Although I suspect I’ll be appreciating those extra layers as the temperatures start to drop!
Finding Our Autumn Rhythm
So that’s life lately.
A little less travelling, a little more time at home. Sunday lunches, cosy evenings, football weekends, autumnal walks, plans for the house, and two Labradors keeping us busy.
Nothing particularly extraordinary, but lots of those everyday moments that make this season feel special.
And after a summer filled with adventures, I’m quite happy to embrace a slower pace for a while. Preferably, with some M&S picky bits!
