Well, there’s been a rather lovely addition to our little family. He has four paws, a wagging tail, and a name that still makes me smile.
Meet Doug. Our new Labrador puppy. And after just two weeks, it’s difficult to imagine our home without him.
Why We Decided to Get Another Labrador
The truth is, Doug has been a long time coming. We’ve been talking about getting another dog for almost two years. We always imagined having two Labradors, and more than anything, we wanted Bob, our chocolate Labrador, to have a little friend.
But as with most things in family life, there’s never really a perfect time, is there? Finally, this summer, we agreed the time was right. We went back to our breeder, and well, the rest is history.
Along came Doug!

Two Labradors, One Happy Home
It’s been such a joy watching Bob and Doug together. They’re already having a wonderful time, and seeing them play and get to know each other has been one of my favourite things about these first few weeks.
Of course, I’d almost forgotten just how much time and attention a puppy needs! Our days are now filled with toilet trips, training sessions, playtime, and the occasional interrupted night’s sleep.
My working-from-home routine has changed too. Coffee breaks and lunch hours are now mostly spent training Doug, although I’m certainly not complaining. It’s been good for the soul.

Straight Into Family Life
We’ve always included Bob in as much of our family life as possible, and Doug is getting exactly the same introduction.
In his first two weeks, he’s already been along to watch George play football, joined us on walks (in arms of course), enjoyed a little pub socialising and even accompanied us on George’s paper round.
He’s certainly not short of new experiences! And slowly, we’re finding our routine.
There have been some little victories along the way, including a night where he only woke once for the toilet. Anyone who’s had a puppy will know how exciting that feels!
A New Chapter for Our Little Family
It’s funny how quickly a puppy can change the rhythm of your home. There’s a little more chaos, a lot more laughter and twice as many paws to clean after a muddy walk.
But there’s also something incredibly lovely about watching our family grow in this way. After two years of talking about it, we finally have our two Labradors. I always wanted three children!
Bob has his little companion, George has another furry friend, and we have a whole new chapter of family adventures ahead of us.
Welcome to our little family, Doug.
I think you’re going to fit in just perfectly.
