Our Favourite Coffee Stops and Bakeries in St Ives

One of our favourite things about St Ives is how easy it is to start the day slowly. Early mornings, a beach walk with Bob, and then coffee – always coffee. Over the years, we’ve found a handful of places we return to again and again, depending on the mood, the weather, and where our walk takes us.

These are the coffee stops that sit at the heart of our early-morning walks, the places we reach after quiet beaches, sandy paws, and slow loops around the bay. These are our tried-and-tested favourites – the ones that feel like part of our routine now.

Slipway

Slipway is often our first stop after an early beach walk. It’s relaxed, unfussy, and perfectly placed near the harbour. Ideal for grabbing a takeaway coffee and easing into the day while watching the boats and the light shift across the water.

I hear they do a great sandwich for lunch!

Yallah Coffee

Yallah Cafe is always buzzing, even early on. Great coffee, friendly faces, and a proper community feel. It’s one of those places that works whether you’re grabbing a quick drink or pausing for a moment to soak up the atmosphere and the view.

Yellow Canary

Yellow Canary feels like a little treat. It’s the place we head to when we fancy something slightly indulgent – beautiful pastries, great coffee, and a calm, welcoming atmosphere and independent. Perfect for slower mornings and a window hatch for those on the go mornings when we wander over to Porthminster.

St Ives Bakery

A St Ives classic. If pastries are calling, this is the answer. Fresh, generous, and always worth the stop – especially when you’ve earned it after a long walk. Perfectly positioned at the end of The Digey, moments from our Cottage. The Cruffin is a must. And the Almond Croissant is a close second.

Porthmeor Cafe & West

For mornings when we want to linger a little longer, Porthmeor Café and West are hard to beat. Coffee with views over the beach, sea air drifting in, and that unmistakable St Ives calm. It’s a lovely place to pause before the day really begins. Great breakfast too. And a perfect spot to sit and watch the teens in their surfing lesson.

Harbour View House

As the name suggests, this one’s all about the view. Coffee here feels like a moment – watching the harbour come to life, wrapped up in a jumper, cup warming your hands. One of those simple pleasures that never gets old. And its a great spot in the evening for a an amazing food experience.

Final thoughts

St Ives does coffee really well, but these places feel special because they’ve become part of how we spend our mornings there. Add a dog walk, a quiet beach, and a slow wander, and it’s pretty much our perfect start to the day.

Across these posts, I’ve shared our favourite morning ritual, the coffee spots and bakeries we return to, and why St Ives works so well for us when travelling with a dog. Taken together, they reflect the kind of holidays we love most – unhurried, familiar, and built around the small moments rather than big plans.
