5 series I’ve watched recently

For most people I know, watching a series during lockdown has been the perfect way to switch off. For week’s I’ve seen recommendations flying around Insta. I have a long list. For me it’s been a great way of unwinding after a long day, a way of separating myself from the news. I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve binged a few since lockdown. When you need a new series to watch, whether together or alone because sometimes you just need to escape maybe this list will help you.

I’m sure I’ll have more of these posts to pull together once all this is over. What do you enjoy watching? I love a medical drama, a police drama and most definitely a love story. I really enjoy a series with what feels like endless amounts of episodes. Ones I can really get drawn into. I won’t lie I do get a little obsessed, hence the binge watching.

So, grab a coffee and my peanut butter cookies – I’ve got a few TV recommendations for you…

5 series I’ve watched recently

Normal People, BBC Three

I binged this one in two nights. 12 episodes. It was a beautiful story. We started to watch this one together, although after the first two episodes I knew it was one just for me. A little awkward at times. Connell and Marianne, are two incredible actors. The roles they play, their emotions, their shot at relationships. As hard and upsetting as it was at times to watch, it felt so real. Although during some scenes I felt like I was intruding. I think it’s true of so many young relationships. And the ending, many disliked it. I felt like it was synonymous of their relationship.

New Amsterdam, NOW TV

Dr Max Goodwin, well he’s a dream (maybe there’s a theme here). The Medical Director of one of the oldest public hospitals in America. Based on a true story which always grabs my attention. I waited with bated breath for this second series. It really is a wonder. Such a great cast, this really is a gorgeous series. One I’ve recommended to so many friends. The truth is I much prefer binge-ing this series, I was glad when I hadn’t seen it pop back on to my watch list. You just cannot let this one go. This hospital has my heart.

Chicago PD, NOW TV

This is a spin off to Chicago Fire which I have watched for years. A story around an intelligence unit of the Chicago PD. Characters intertwine, weeks crossover. With a few lead characters with story lines that grip you, I find myself drawn to it each week. I binged the first few series until I caught up. These franchises are really great. There’s actually a 3rd in the franchise – Chicago Med which I’m yet to delve into.

The Crown, Netflix

The greatest storytelling. I actually only started to watch The Crown this year, very late to the party here. And like all great series I binged my way through it. And now I’m waiting for series 4. It took a few episodes for me to really get into it, I soon became invested in the characters. In love with the clothes and storytelling. In love with her awkwardness. I love how these series were cast, I expected my favourite to be Olivia Colman but actually I felt like I fell in love with the original cast. Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby, brilliant actors. And lastly, Josh O’Connor and his portrayal of Prince Charles.

After Life, Netflix

Have you seen Series 1? I’m not quite sure I can put into words how much I enjoyed Series 2. More than the first. So many friends have said they’ll wait until after lockdown to watch After Life as the first Series left them drained. Let me just say that the second series is more upbeat, heartwarming and joyful. It is sad in parts but mostly you will be smiling. I remember thinking that rather than watching an actor, I felt like I was living out this part of his life with him. Ricky Gervais is incredibly talented. One character to look out for, Anne. Her role in the movie is unforgettable.

And that’s 5 series I’ve watched recently. And now I’ve started to watch Grey’s Anatomy. I could be a while. I’ve heard so many good things. How dreamy is Dr Shepherd. What have you been watching? Any recommendations? Sending you all a bunch of love x x

I’ve watched 3 out of 5 of these and agree with everything you’ve said about After Life, Normal People and The Crown. I’m about to start on Ozark – have you watched it? xx

Ozark is definitely one to watch, we are on the current season but I do admit to dipping in and out of it as it’s a little violent for me.

How have you just started Grey’s Anatomy….? OMG it was my fave show I have seem them all twice already might start it again with hubby. McDreamy is fab wait for McSteamy to arrive! lol All great series. I think I have seen most of these except Normal People. I only just finished the book. I won’t say it out loud I hated the book so many loved it. So I am hoping for more in the show. It just seems like it’s two kids date then break up date in college than break up. Not many other characters or things happen except them having sex or not having sex. I guess that is today’s generation. lol
