After months of being on the go, there’s something lovely about slowing right down. No flights to catch, no park maps to plan or street maps, no early alarms just weekends with nowhere to be and time to notice the small things again (well we do have football).
It’s that in-between season where the candles come back out, the fairy lights find their way back into their boxes until November, and the kettle never really cools down. I’ve swapped iced coffees for steaming mugs of pistachio latte, playlists for quiet background music, and sunshine for the glow of a lamp in the corner.

The house feels calmer too. There’s a softness in the light, and a sense that it’s okay to close the door and stay in. Evenings are spent cooking slow dinners, catching up on series we missed over the summer, and curling up on the sofa while Bob snoozes somewhere nearby.
I’ve started making little rituals of things — lighting a candle before I start work, walking as the sun sets, picking up a book instead of my phone. Tiny moments, but they make a difference.
The older I get, the more I appreciate this time of year. The reset doesn’t need to be dramatic, it’s not about big goals or grand plans — just small shifts that make life feel a little slower, a little softer, and a lot more grounded.
Here’s to cosy nights, warm jumpers, and finding comfort in the calm before the excitement of our Spring and our May half-term trip.
