The Summer Edit

Somehow it’s August and we’re about to go on our holiday!

So this is my Summer Edit – I wanted it to be a warm, reflective round-up that captures the vibe of late summer, looking back on the last couple of months and looking ahead to what’s still to come before we’re wrapped up in layers and sat under blankets.

The sun feels a little softer, the days a little shorter, and I can’t quite believe how quickly summer is slipping through our fingers. George commented how he’s already coming to the end of week 3 and we’re finally in the last few days before we head over to America for our Summer adventure.

The start of the season already feels like a blur, full of plans, to-do lists and the excitement of what was to come. Now we’re somewhere in the middle of it all, holding on to the slow mornings, warm evenings and every bit of sunshine we can find.

Here’s what summer’s looked like so far…

The Summer Edit

City Strolls and old friends

Back in July, I took a little trip down to London to catch up with a friend I hadn’t seen since my 40th. Far too long, really. We wandered through the picture-perfect streets of Chelsea and Belgravia, dipping in and out of cafés and shops, chatting like no time had passed at all. It felt like such a tonic, good food, good wine, and the kind of company that makes everything feel easy.

The big summer adventure

After months of planning and excitement, our holiday is finally here. We’re heading off to Miami and Orlando – a mix of beach days and theme park magic. I’ve packed too many books, not enough shoes, and at least one outfit I probably won’t wear… but that’s all part of it, isn’t it?

There’s something about the rhythm of a family holiday I love, the silliness, the shared meals, the time away from our usual routines. It’s busy and joyful and messy in the best kind of way.

Style notes

This summer I’ve found a little uniform: lace skirts, oversized tees, and comfy sandals or trainers. It’s easy but feels like me. M&S has really come into its own this season, I’ve found a few gems – and I’m still drawn to the playful prints from Never Fully Dressed, the floaty bits from Free People, and Zara for, well, everything in between.

On screen and in my hands

Evenings lately have been about winding down with The Gilded Age – slow, dramatic, and beautiful to look at. I’m also watching And Just Like That, and feel so sad after reading this is the final season, I’ll miss it now it’s done. Familiar faces, familiar places – I’m a sucker for some SATC nostalgia.

For our trip, I’ve packed It Ends With Us (finally!) and More Confessions of a Forty-Something F** Up* – because I like to mix a bit of emotion with a good laugh. We’ll see how much reading actually happens between rollercoasters and pool days and catching up on work…

Looking ahead

As we ease into August, I’m reminding myself to enjoy the moments in between. The late breakfasts, the spontaneous days out, the evenings where the light hangs on just that little bit longer. There’s still time for summer. And I plan to soak up every last drop of it in America.

Have a great end to the Summer. See you in September.
