There’s something about June that always makes me pause. Half the year behind us, half still to come. It’s a natural point to take stock of what’s changed, what’s stayed the same, and what’s quietly shifted when I wasn’t looking.
The start of the year felt heavier than I’d hoped. But a week in Cornwall at the end of May gave us the space we needed. Just the three of us, we also took George’s buddy (and Bob, of course), slow days by the sea, and that familiar feeling of calm I always seem to find down there. It was the reset we didn’t know we needed.
So here’s a little catch-up. A few thoughts on the first half of the year, and a look ahead at what’s just around the corner.
The June Edit
If Spring was about finding our feet again, then June feels like a chance to pause and catch our breath.
The first half of the year wasn’t easy. A change in my business brought more challenge than I was ready for – mentally, emotionally, and everything in between. It’s taken time to sit with it, to steady the wobbles and remind myself that change, even the hard kind, can still lead somewhere good.
And now here we are. Halfway through the year and things are starting to shift. Plans are forming. Excitement is building. There’s lightness again.
This weekend we fly to Rome, just the two of us for my birthday. It’s been a long time since we had an adult-only break, and I can’t wait to soak it all in. Good food, sunshine, and the space to just be with lots of sightseeing and Aperitifs along the way.
When we’re home, we step straight into the next chapter. George has his Duke of Edinburgh expedition coming up, then we’ll be celebrating his 14th birthday. The summer holidays will follow, with more adventures on the horizon and a calendar that’s filling up in the best kind of way for the rest of the year.
June feels like the turning point. A quiet nudge to look back, take stock, and then look ahead with hope.
So here’s to slower mornings, a suitcase waiting to be packed, and letting joy back in – one plan, one day, one deep breath at a time.
How has the first half of the year been for you?
